Anti-Lock System Self-Check: Trooper

  1. Turn ignition on. Note operation of ABS warning light on instrument panel. ABS warning light should illuminate for 3 seconds and then turn off.
  2. If ABS warning light does not operate as specified, check for a system malfunction. System malfunction(s) can be detected by different ABS warning light illumination patterns when ignition switch is turned to ON position.
  3. ABS warning light may illuminate immediately after power is supplied to EBCM, about 15 seconds after engine start, or when a specified vehicle speed has been reached. Type of malfunction can be narrowed down by knowing timing of light illumination. See Fig 1.
  4. If ABS warning light indicates that a DTC has been set, retrieve DTCs. See RETRIEVING DTCS USING SCAN TOOL or RETRIEVING DTCS USING ABS WARNING LIGHT under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS.
  5. ABS warning light will turn off when ignition switch is turned off. If fault is still not repaired, ABS warning light illuminates again with same pattern when ignition switch is turned to ON position.
