Anti-Lock System Self-Check
NOTE:
BRAKE warning light should remain on if parking brake is applied and ignition is on.
- Turn ignition on. EBCM will automatically perform self-diagnostics as part of initialization procedure. Initialization procedure will verify motor, modulator, solenoid, relay and indicator operation as well as check wheel speed sensor circuits for shorts to ground/power or opens.
- If EBCM detects a malfunction in itself or any other system component, a DTC will be set and ABS warning light will remain illuminated. If no malfunction is detected, ABS warning light should turn off about 3 seconds after engine start.
- About one second after engine start, EBCM will test hydraulic unit. During this test, it is normal to hear a slight mechanical noise from hydraulic unit. If driver's foot is on brake pedal during engine start, initialization will not occur until foot is removed, or until vehicle begins moving faster than 3 MPH.
- If a malfunction is detected, a DTC will be set and ABS warning light will remain illuminated. If no malfunction is detected, ABS warning light should turn off.
