Valve Body Unit: Disassembly

  1. Remove 2 valve housing bolts and separate valve housing from steering gearbox. Apply vinyl tape to splines of pinion shaft. Using a press, separate valve housing from pinion shaft. See Figure .
  2. With your finger, inspect for a step on inner wall of valve housing. If there is a step, replace valve housing.
    NOTE: There may be sliding marks from seal ring on wall of valve housing. Replace housing ONLY if wall is stepped.
  3. Check for wear, burrs and other damage to edges of grooves in valve sleeve. Remove circlip and valve sleeve from pinion shaft. Using a small cutter, carefully cut and remove the 4 seal rings from sleeve. Avoid damaging sleeve grooves and outer surface of sleeve.
  4. Using small cutter, remove valve seal ring and "O" ring from pinion shaft. Remove valve oil seal and backup ring from pinion shaft.
    NOTE: Inspect pinion shaft ball bearing for excessive play. If play is excessive, replace pinion shaft and valve sleeve as an assembly. DO NOT mix old and new pinion shafts and sleeves.
  5. Using Pilot Collar (07GAF-PH70100 ), press valve oil seal and roller bearing out of valve housing.
