Retrieving Codes (Using Anti-Lock Warning Light)

NOTE: ABS Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) may also be retrieved using a scan tester. To retrieve ABS DTC's using scan tester, follow scan tester manufacturer's instruction manual.
  1. When ANTI-LOCK warning light remains on, EBCM will store DTC's and disable ABS system. If DTC's are not displayed, wiring harness from EBCM to ANTI-LOCK warning light (White wire) may be disconnected. Check and repair wire as necessary.
  2. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position and brake pedal is released. Using jumper wire, connect terminals No. 1 and 3 of Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is Orange and is located behind driver's side kick panel. See Fig 1 . Turn ignition switch to ON position. DTC will be displayed by flashing ANTI-LOCK warning light.
  3. A pause of 3.2 seconds exists between DTC's. A pause of 1.2 seconds exists between DTC numbers. DTC numbers will flash every .4 second. Count number of short flashes to determine existing DTC. DTC 12 will be displayed 3 times, then any other DTC's are also displayed 3 times.
  4. If no other DTC's have been stored, ABS warning light will repeat DTC 12. Up to 3 different DTC's can be stored, starting with most recent DTC. ANTI-LOCK warning light will discontinue displaying codes after 5 minutes. To identify DTC possible component or circuit malfunction, see ABS SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table.
