Hydraulic System Pressure Test
- Disconnect pressure hose from steering pump (If equipped). Install Pressure Gauge (J-29877-A ) with Adapter (J-33996 ) between pressure hose and power steering pump.
- Open shutoff valve. Start engine. Set engine speed to 1500 RPM. Partially close shutoff valve until fluid has reached a temperature of 122-140°F (50-60°C).
- Open shutoff valve and fill fluid reservoir to MAX mark. Set engine speed to 1500 RPM. Close and then open shutoff valve 3 times while noting pressure.
- Pressure should be 1066-1208 psi (74-82 kg/cm2 ). If pressure is higher than specified, relief valve in power steering pump is defective. If pressure is lower than specified, relief valve and/or power steering pump are defective.
- If pump pressure is within specification, measure fluid pressure when steering wheel is turned to lock in both directions. Pressure should be 1066-1208 psi (74-82 kg/cm2 ). If pressure is lower than specified, internal leak in steering gear is indicated.
