Adjusting Plug

Tighten adjusting plug to 44 INCH lbs. (5 N.m). Loosen adjusting plug. Retighten adjusting plug to 44 INCH lbs. (5 N.m). Back off adjusting plug 26 degrees (about 1/15 turn). Using an INCH-lb. torque wrench and socket on pinion shaft splines, check starting torque. If starting torque is not 5.31-14.16 INCH lbs. (0.6-1.6 N.m), adjusting plug must be readjusted. See Figure and Figure . After adjustments are completed, tighten lock nut to 49 ft. lbs. (67 N.m).
