Combination Switch Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1991 Isuzu Stylus, 1991 Isuzu Impulse, and 1990 Isuzu Impulse. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disable SIR system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Locate and disconnect combination switch harness connector by removing knee pad.
  2. To remove knee pad, remove switches panel by prying/pulling panel outward. Remove cigarette lighter panel by prying/pulling outward. Remove hood release cable and handle assembly. Remove knee pad retaining screws.
  3. Remove steering column cowl/shroud. Locate and disconnect 16-terminal combination switch harness connector near steering column. Check continuity between combination switch connector terminals as shown in table. See COMBINATION SWITCH CONNECTOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  . SeeFig 1 .

  4. If circuit continuity is NOT as specified, replace combination switch. See COMBINATION SWITCH R & I  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If switch circuit continuity is okay but problem still persists, check power circuit to combination switch and check wiring circuits from switch connector. See appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS Section.
