Retrieving Trouble Codes

  1. On all models, count number of flashes from "CHECK ENGINE" light. A trouble code No. 12 will be identified by a flash, pause and flash, flash. A long pause will exist and code No. 12 will be repeated 3 times. See Fig 2 . Each additional code will flash 3 times starting with lowest code to the highest and repeat 3 times.
  2. If system is operating properly (with no trouble codes), a trouble code No. 12 should exist with ignition on and engine off. This indicates the diagnostic system is capable of storing trouble codes. Start engine and note codes displayed.
  3. Each individual trouble code will be repeated 3 times and then display the next trouble code. See Fig 2 . Once all trouble codes are displayed, trouble codes will be repeated. After codes are retrieved, remove jumper wire from diagnostic leads to exit diagnostic mode.
NOTE: Trouble codes can also be retrieved using a "Scan" tool.
