Electronic Spark Timing (Est)

  1. To check system operation, check timing at 1500 RPM. At 1500 RPM, ground the diagnostic terminal of the Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL). If the timing changes at 1500 RPM, system is operating.
  2. The ALDL is the 3-wire connector next to ECM. ECM is behind right kick panel. See Fig 1 . On I-Mark, jumper the Yellow/Red and Black wires together to ground the ALDL.
  3. On I-Mark Turbo, the EST system may set a code 42. Refer to the TESTS W/CODES - EFI article for more testing information.
