Control Unit: I-Mark
The Electronic Control Unit (ECM), located behind glove box in passenger kick panel, has self-diagnosis capability that allows for trouble shooting the system through a check engine light. The check engine light on the dash will illuminate to alert the driver of a system malfunction. The ECM stores a maximum of 3 system malfunctions and will display a problem via a 2-digit code displayed by the check engine light.
On I-Mark 1.5L, if a failure occures in an ECM input device, driveability or safety may be affected. To give an extra margin of safety in the event of system failure, the output of the control unit will be switched automatically to a fail-safe mode. The back-up control system works to maintain the minimum necessary functions of the control unit to permit continuous operation of the vehicle.
On I-Mark 1.6L, the ECM is equipped with a Turbo Memory Calibration Unit (MEM-CAL). The MEM-CAL contains program information tailored to the vehicles weight, engine, transmission, axle ratio, etc. If power to the ECM is removed, MEM-CAL information will be retained. The MEM-CAL is located inside the ECM. When a replacement ECM is needed, the MEM-CAL from the old ECM must be removed and installed in the new ECM.
