Ignition System - Electronic: Operation: Sensors
The coolant temperature sensor signals the ECM to advance timing on a cold engine and return timing to programmed advance curve as engine reaches normal operating temperature.
The Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor modifies spark timing by signaling the ECM to give less spark advance with high MAP output voltage, and more spark advance with low MAP output voltage.
NOTE:
Poor engine performance can be caused by high MAP output or low resistance in the coolant sensor circuit.
