Removal & Installation - A/T: Removal
- Drain transmission fluid. Disconnect throttle cable at engine side. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove transmission oil dipstick and tube. Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Remove starter attaching hardware. Remove starter by moving it toward front of vehicle. Remove drive shaft. Disconnect shift control rod from shifter lever. Disconnect speedometer cable from transmission. Remove exhaust pipe.
- Loosen joint nut on transmission side. Disconnect by-pass pipe and wire aside to avoid damage. Remove dust cover and under cover on front of engine. Remove 6 bolts attaching converter to drive plate. Access to bolts is obtained by rotating crankshaft pulley.
- Remove bolt from center part of rear mounting frame bracket. Remove housing bolt. Raise engine and transmission assembly. Support rear of engine with a jack.
- Lower transmission and engine slightly. Remove transmission-to-engine bolts. Remove transmission from vehicle by moving it towards rear of vehicle. Do not let torque converter slip out of transmission.
