Operation & Testing

  1. With engine running, remove air cleaner. Cover hot idle compensator air inlet port in carburetor throat (1940C) or air horn (2210C and 4160C). An improvement in engine idle quality with air inlet port covered indicates that hot idle compensator valve is not functioning properly.
  2. Remove hot idle compensator cover and bi-metal valve assembly and assure that valve seat gasket is in good condition and in place in counterbore of carburetor body. Replace gasket if worn or damaged. If replacement of valve seat gasket does not improve idle quality, bi-metal valve assembly is faulty and should be replaced.
