Removal and Installation: Installation

Replacement Windshield Glass 

CAUTION: Never damage new windshield glass, roof glass (with glass roof) and each body panel.
  1. Use a cutter knife or scraper, and leave the adhesive and sealant on the body side approximately 2 mm (0.079 in) (A) to make adhesive and sealant surface smooth.

    CAUTION: Smooth out adhesive and sealant surface.
  2. Clean the bonded area on body side using a cleaner from repair kit rub dry with rag. [Glazing repair kit, 2-component adhesive (A 220 670 00 93) (Sika Automotive GmbH), Repair kit for installing windshield, 1-component adhesive (A 221 670 81 01) (Sika Automotive GmbH), or equivalent]
  3. Repair paint damage in bonded area and on body side using a primer stick or primer filler. [Primer stick (A 000 986 27 50) (Motip Dupli GmbH), Hepox 2K EP primer filler 4017 (Spies Hecker GmbH), or equivalent]
    CAUTION: Observe the manufacturer's specifications for the curing and processing time of the primer filler.
  4. Place new windshield glass on the vehicle temporarily, put on matching marks on new windshield glass, glass roof or roof panel and both side of body side outer panel.

    CAUTION: To prevent the gap when install new windshield glass put on matching marks by all means.
  5. Use suction lifter (A) or rubber suction cups to set new windshield glass SYMBOL on glass stand (B).

    CAUTION: Due to weight of new windshield glass, 2 workers are required by all means.
  6. Clean the bonded area on glass side using a cleaner from repair kit rub dry with rag. [Glazing repair kit, 2-component adhesive (A 220 670 00 93) (Sika Automotive GmbH), Repair kit for installing windshield, 1-component adhesive (A 221 670 81 01) (Sika Automotive GmbH), or equivalent]
    CAUTION: The bonded area on new windshield glass must be absolutely free of dust and grease.
  7. Apply primer along the entire circumference of new windshield glass. [Glazing repair kit, 2-component adhesive (A 220 670 00 93) (Sika Automotive GmbH), Repair kit for installing windshield, 1-component adhesive (A 221 670 81 01) (Sika Automotive GmbH), or equivalent]
    CAUTION:
    • To dry primer during the time indicated by the primers manufacturer.
    • The primer must flash off for at least 10 minutes. Otherwise the adhesive effect of the adhesive material will be impaired.
    NOTE: The essential function of primers is to strengthen adhesion between the glass and the painted surface.
  8. Apply primer to the body side bonding surface. [Glazing repair kit, 2-component adhesive (A 220 670 00 93) (Sika Automotive GmbH), Repair kit for installing windshield, 1-component adhesive (A 221 670 81 01) (Sika Automotive GmbH), or equivalent]
    CAUTION:
    • To dry painted surface primer during the time indicated by the primers manufacturer.
    • If painted surfaces primer abide to a painted surface other than the bonding area, or if it overflows, quickly remove it with white gasoline or degreasing agent.
    • Make sure to apply the correct coating amount of painted surface primer. In case the amount of painted surface primer is in excess, the primer risk to overflow from windshield glass and each body panel. This may deteriorate the vehicle appearance.
  9. Apply adhesive SYMBOL to entire circumference of new windshield glass by using a sealant gun (A). [Glazing repair kit, 2-component adhesive (A 220 670 00 93) (Sika Automotive GmbH), Repair kit for installing windshield, 1-component adhesive (A 221 670 81 01) (Sika Automotive GmbH), or equivalent]

    CAUTION:
    • Use the sealing kit for glass application and the special holder for cartridge or similar tools.
    • Make sure to apply the correct coating amount of adhesive. In case the amount of adhesive is not sufficient, windshield glass risks to drop.
    • Make sure to apply the correct coating amount of adhesive. In case the amount of adhesive is in excess, the adhesive risk to overflow from windshield glass and each body panel. This may deteriorate the vehicle appearance.
    • The starting point and the finishing point of the adhesive SYMBOL should be put together any gap as shown in the figure.

      : Overlapping area [30 mm (1.18 in)]
    NOTE: Open adhesive by cutting off the nozzle tip and set it in a sealant gun.
  10. Use suction lifter (A) or rubber suction cups that are installed in advance, align the matching marks between the body panel and windshield glass SYMBOL to install them on the vehicle.

    CAUTION: Due to weight of windshield glass, 2 workers are required by all means.
  11. Press entire surface of windshield glass lightly to fit it completely.
  12. Adjust the clearance between the new windshield glass and glass roof or roof panel evenly.

  13. Correct any adhesive overflow or shortage using a spatula to make the surface smooth.
    CAUTION:
    • Dry the adhesive according to the specification of adhesive kit.
    • After installing windshield glass, keep the all door glass open until the adhesive is completely cured.
    • Never drive the vehicle before the adhesive is completely cured.
  14. Fix with tapes (A) etc. to keep the clearance evenly between new windshield glass and glass roof or roof panel.

  15. Peel off protective tapes and matching marks.
  16. Install removed parts.
    CAUTION:
    • Check the matching with surrounding parts. Adjust if necessary.
    • Adjust the front wiper arms stop position. Refer to Inspection and Adjustment .
    • Must be perform additional service when replacing front camera unit. Refer to Description . (With front camera)
    • After installation new windshield glass, perform the inspection. Refer to Inspection .

Reuse Windshield Glass 

CAUTION: Never damage windshield glass, roof glass (with glass roof) and each body panel.
