Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota Tundra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: The vehicle is equipped with an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) which includes components such as airbags. Before servicing (including removal or installation of parts), be sure to read the precautionary notice for the SRS (see PRECAUTION ).
  1. INSPECT RADIO RECEIVER
    1. Disconnect the K3 receiver connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
K3-7 (SW1) - K3-6 (SWG) No switch is pushed 100 kΩ or higher
      Seek+ switch: push Below 1 Ω
      Seek- switch: push 329 Ω
      Volume+ switch: push 1000 Ω
      Volume- switch: push 3100 Ω
K3-8 (SW2) - K3-6 (SWG) No switch is pushed 100 kΩ or higher
MODE switch: push Below 1 Ω
On Hook switch: push 329 Ω
Off Hook switch: push 1000 Ω

    NG: Go to step 2

      Standard resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
z3-10 (AU1) - z3-8 (EAU) No switch is pushed 100 kΩ or higher
      Seek+ switch: push Below 1 Ω
      Seek- switch: push 329 Ω
      Volume+ switch: push 1000 Ω
      Volume- switch: push 3110 Ω
z3-9 (AU2) - Z3-8 (EAU) No switch is pushed 100 kΩ or higher
MODE switch: push Below 1 Ω
On Hook switch: push 329 Ω
Off Hook switch: push 1000 Ω

NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY  (see REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to next step.

  3. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE
    1. Disconnect the z3 switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the J45 cable connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
z3-8 (EAU) - J45-4 (EAU) Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise Below 1 Ω
      Spiral cable is centered
Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise
      z3-10 (AU1) - J45-6 (AU1) Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise
      Spiral cable is centered
Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise
      Z3-9 (AU2) - J45-5 (AU2) Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise
      Spiral cable is centered
Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise
CAUTION: The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may prevent the airbag from deploying. Be sure to read the PRECAUTION for the SRS (see PRECAUTION ).
