Removal And Installation: Removal

Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal.
Drain ATF through drain plug.
Remove exhaust front tube and center muffler with power tool. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION "
Remove rear propeller shaft. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
Remove control rod. Refer to "CONTROL ROD REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
Remove oil pan, oil pan gasket and clips (VQ35DE models) or oil pan, oil pan gasket, brackets and clips (VK45DE models) according to the following procedures.
1. VQ35DE models
  1. Remove clips (1).
  2. Remove oil pan (2) and oil pan gasket.
    <=: Front

2. VK45DE models
  1. Remove clips (1) and brackets (2).
  2. Remove oil pan (3) and oil pan gasket.

Check foreign materials in oil pan to help determine causes of malfunction. If the ATF is very dark, smells burned, or contains foreign particles, the frictional material (clutches, band) may need replacement. A tacky film that will not wipe clean indicates varnish build up. Varnish can cause valves, servo, and clutches to stick and can inhibit pump pressure.
- If frictional material is detected, perform A/T fluid cooler cleaning. Refer to "A/T FLUID COOLER CLEANING ".

Support A/T assembly with a transmission jack.
CAUTION: When setting transmission jack, place wooden blocks to prevent from damaging control valve with TCM and transmission case.
Remove rear engine mounting member with power tool. Refer to "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (2WD MODELS) ".
Remove rear extension assembly (VQ35DE models) or output shaft & companion flange complement (VK45DE models) according to the following procedures.

1. VQ35DE models
  1. Remove tightening bolts for rear extension assembly and transmission case.
  2. Tap rear extension assembly with a soft hammer.

  3. Remove rear extension assembly from transmission case. (With needle bearing.)

2. VK45DE models
  1. Remove tightening bolts (1) for output shaft & companion flange complement and transmission case.
    : Bolt (10)
    
    • Self-sealing bolts (2)

  2. Tap output shaft & companion flange complement with a soft hammer.

  3. Remove output shaft & companion flange complement from transmission case

Disconnect revolution sensor connector.
CAUTION: Be careful not to damage connector

Straighten terminal clip to free revolution sensor harness.

Remove revolution sensor from transmission case.
CAUTION:
- Do not subject it to impact by dropping or hitting it.
- Do not disassemble.
- Do not allow metal filings, etc., to get on the sensor's front edge magnetic area.
- Do not place in an area affected by magnetism.
