Valve Body Assembly: Removal
NOTE:
Manufacturer refers to valve body assembly as control valve assembly.
- Disconnect negative battery terminal.
- Drain transmission fluid through drain plug.
- Remove front suspension member. See appropriate FRONT SUSPENSION article in SUSPENSION.
- Disconnect heated oxygen sensor No. 2 harness connector.
- Disconnect transmission assembly harness connector.
- Remove snap ring from transmission assembly harness connector.
- Push transmission assembly harness connector. Use care to not damage connector.
- Remove oil pan and oil pan gasket.
- Check foreign materials in oil pan to help determine cause of malfunction. If transmission fluid id very dark, smells burned, or contains foreign materials, the friction material (clutches, bands) may need replacement. A tacky film that will not wipe clan indicates varnish build up. Varnish can cause valves, servo, and clutches to stick and can inhibit pump pressure.
- Remove magnets from oil pan.
- Disconnect transmission fluid sensor No. 2 connector. Use care to not damage connector. See Figure.
- Straighten terminal clips to free cord assembly and transmission temperature sensor No. 2 harness.
- Disconnect revolution sensor connector. Use care to not damage connector. See Fig 1.
- Straighten terminal clips to free revolution sensor harness.
- Remove bolts "A", "B" and "C" from control valve with TCM. See Fig 2.
- Remove control valve with TCM from transmission case. When removing, be careful with the manual valve notch and manual plate height. Remove it vertically. See Fig 3.
- Remove transmission fluid temperature sensor No. 2 with bracket from control valve with TCM. See Figure.
- Remove bracket from transmission fluid temperature sensor No. 2.
- Remove "O" ring from transmission assembly harness connector.
- Disconnect TCM connectors. Use care to not damage connectors.
- Remove transmission assembly harness connector from control valve with TCM using flat-bladed screwdriver. See Fig 4.
- Disconnect TCM connector and PNP switch connector. Use care to not damage connectors. See Fig 5.
NOTE:
If friction material detected, replace radiator after repair of transmission.
