Possible Causes
Malfunction is detected when ECM detects short in both circuits between ECM and throttle control motor. When the malfunction is detected, the ECM enters fail-safe mode and the MIL lights up. ECM stops the electric throttle control actuator control and throttle valve is maintained at a fixed opening (about 5 degrees) by the return spring. Possible causes are:
- Throttle control motor circuit is shorted.
- Defective electric throttle control actuator (throttle control motor).
