Component Inspection

  1. Remove fuel level sensor/fuel pump assembly. Check resistance between fuel level sensor/fuel pump assembly (main) harness connector terminals No. 2 (Yellow wire) and 5 (Black wire). With the float position in empty position, 1.14 in. (29 mm) from bottom of assembly (float rod in contact with lower stopper), resistance should be about 80 ohms. With float position at full position, 9.29 in. (236 mm) from bottom of assembly (float rod in contact with upper stopper), resistance should be about 3 ohms. If resistance is as specified, fuel level sensor is okay at this time. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
  2. Check for continuity in Yellow and Black wires between fuel level sensor/fuel pump assembly harness connector terminals No. 2 and at point where signal wire connects to sensor and between fuel level sensor/fuel pump assembly harness connector terminal No. 5 and at point where ground terminal wire connects to ground. If continuity exists in both circuits, go to next step. If continuity does not exist in either circuit, replace fuel level sensor unit.
  3. Check resistance between fuel level sensor unit (sub) harness connector terminals No. 1 (Light Green wire) and No. 2 (Yellow wire). With the float position in empty position, 1.14 in. (29 mm) from bottom of assembly (float rod in contact with lower stopper), resistance should be about 48 ohms. With float position at full position, 9.29 in. (236 mm) from bottom of assembly (float rod in contact with upper stopper), resistance should be about 3 ohms. If resistance is as specified, fuel level sensor is okay at this time. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel level sensor unit.
