SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Determine which DTC code is stored in the vehicle's ECM by performing CONSULT-II Self-Diagnosis.
  2. Print out the Self-Diagnosis results for use in:
    • ECM Part Number Check (step 3), and
    • Determining which Rear Oxygen Sensor(s) will be replaced.
NOTE: See Fig 1 for an example of the CONSULT-II Self-Diagnosis printout.

      G00312439
  3. Compare the vehicle's current ECM P/N (from your CONSULT-II Self Diagnosis printout) to those shown under Current ECM P/N in CURRENT ECM'S , below:
    CURRENT ECM'S

    Vehicle Current ECM P/N
    M/T 23710-5W500
    A/T 23710-5W510
    1. If the ECM P/N in the vehicle matches one of those listed under "Current ECM P/N" in CURRENT ECM'S  (above):
      • Look in the "Vehicle" Column in CURRENT ECM'S  (above) and determine the vehicle's transmission (MT or A/T). Make a note of the vehicle's transmission and perform ECM Reprogramming, below.
    2. If the ECM P/N in the vehicle does not match one of those listed under "Current ECM P/N" in CURRENT ECM'S  (above):
      • This bulletin does not apply. Use the appropriate Electronic Service Manual (ESM) to further diagnose and repair the incident.

ECM REPROGRAMMING

  1. Perform ECM Reprogramming to install the latest available ECM data.
    • If you're not familiar with ECM Reprogramming, refer to ITB00-005C , ECM REPROGRAMMING FOR INFINITI VEHICLES.
    • For those familiar with ECM Reprogramming, perform the following:

      1. Select model and model year for the applied vehicle (example: QX4, 2002).
      2. Select the vehicle's transmission you are working on from those listed in the upper right ECM data description window. The vehicle's transmission must match the type you made note of in step 3A (example: Update for A/T Models).
      3. Make a note of the "To" number listed in the "ECM Reprogramming Data" Summary screen.

NOTE: The "To" number will read: 23710-XXXXX.

      4. Press "Continue" and follow directions to perform data download from ASIST to CONSULT-II.
      5. Then reprogram the vehicle's ECM. When reprogramming from CONSULT-II, select the "To" number that you made note of in step C, above.
