Description & Operation: Notes

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

The instrument cluster consists of odometer/trip meter, speedometer, tachometer, fuel and coolant temperature gauges. An internal control unit operates instrument cluster. Various warning lights, system indicators and gear selector position indicators are bulb-type circuits. Instrument cluster can be removed with gauges installed, and is serviced as a complete assembly.

A digital odometer/trip meter displays vehicle mileage and has 2 trip meter functions. To select between which display to view, depress reset button for less than a second to choose between odometer, trip "A" or trip "B" displays. Odometer readings cannot be erased or lost, but trip odometers can be reset by depressing and holding the reset button. The instrument cluster offers diagnostics for digital display, in addition to diagnostic check for speedometer, tachometer and both gauges. Operation of the tachometer is based on input signal received from the Engine Control Module (ECM).
