Diagnostic Procedure
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel level sensor harness connector located behind access cover under rear seat. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and fuel level sensor harness connector terminal No. 4 (Green/Red wire). If battery voltage exists, go to step 3. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Check the following:
- Check for faulty connection at White, 20-pin in-line harness connector M8 terminal No. 13 (Green/Red wire). Connector M8 is located behind fuse block under left side of instrument panel, below and inboard of super multiple junction.
- Check for faulty connection at Green, 12-pin in-line harness connector B120 terminal No. 8 (Green/Red wire). Connector B120 is located in left rear of passenger compartment, above wheelwell.
- Check for open or short in Green/Red wire between fuel level sensor harness connector terminal No. 4 and instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 17. See Fig 1.
Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Check continuity between body ground and fuel level sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire). Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. If a problem is found, repair as necessary. If a problem is not found, go to next step.
- Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure. Check continuity of the following:
- Green/Red wire between fuel level sensor harness connector terminal No. 4 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 83.
- Black wire between fuel level sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 90.
See Figure. Also, check circuits for short to ground and short to voltage. If a problem is found, go to next step. If circuits are okay, go to step 6.
- Check the following:
- Check for faulty connection at White, 18-pin connector F-23 terminal No. 9 (Black wire). See Figure and Figure .
- Check for faulty connection at White, 20-pin connector F-24 terminal No. 14 (Green/Red wire). See Figure and Figure .
- Check for faulty connection at White, 20-pin connector M75 terminal No. 18 (Black wire). Connector M75 is located behind right kick panel.
- Check for open or short in Black and Green/Red wires between fuel level sensor and ECM.
Repair as necessary.
- Remove fuel level sensor from fuel tank. Measure resistance between fuel level sensor/FTT sensor terminals No. 1 and 4, with sensor at specified positions. See FUEL LEVEL SENSOR RESISTANCE table. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel level sensor and retest system.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
