Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit Test

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) from transmission, leaving harness connector connected. Disconnect combination meter harness connector M41. See Figure . Using a DVOM set to AC scale, connect leads between ground and No. 15 (Red wire) of harness connector M41. Measure voltage while spinning VSS pinion quickly. If about .5 volts exists, VSS circuit is okay. If .5 volts does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Test VSS. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS)  under COMPONENT TESTS. If VSS is defective, replace VSS. If VSS is okay, repair open in Grey/Yellow and/or Black wires.
