Intake Valve Timing Control System
The Intake Valve Timing Control (IVTC) system controls intake valve opening and closing timing. Engine coolant temperature, engine speed, intake air amount, vehicle speed and throttle position are used to determine intake valve timing. The intake camshaft sprocket position is regulated by oil pressure controlled by the IVTC solenoid. When ECM energizes IVTC solenoid, oil pressure is applied to camshaft sprocket, which advances intake camshaft. IVTC position sensors, located at rear of each cylinder head, detect intake camshaft position. These sensors are not used for engine control. They are only used for on-board diagnosis of IVTC system.
