Mode I (LAN Communication Check)

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Turn headlight switch and rear window defogger switch to OFF position. Ensure all doors are closed. Set dome light switch in center AUTO position, and map light switches to OFF position. See Figure . Place gear selector lever in "P" position.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position, then to ACC position. Repeatedly turn rear window defogger switch on and off more than 10 times in 10 seconds, ending in the OFF position. Interior dome and step lights should all illuminate. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position within 5 seconds after dome and step lights illuminate.
  3. Dome and step light should turn off. After one second, LAN communications is performed, and dome light and step light will now flash DTCs. See Fig 1 . Record DTCs, and perform appropriate repair procedure. See DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS  table. To exit diagnostic mode, turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Diagnostic mode is automatically canceled if left unattended for 10 minutes after DTCs are retrieved.

(1) No failure is detected at this time. Check for intermittent connection at BCM and all LCUs.
(2) If a combination of failures exists, clear all faults and repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTICS  . If same diagnostic results are repeated, replace all appropriate LCUs.
(3) Caused by an LCU. Clear faults and repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTICS  . If same diagnostic results are repeated, replace affected LCU.
(4) Caused by BCM. Clear faults and repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTICS  . If same diagnostic results are repeated, replace BCM.
(5) Clear faults and repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTICS  . If same diagnostic result is repeated, replace all LCUs.
(6) Check power supply, ground circuit and data line circuit for LCUs in question. See POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT CHECK  , GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK  or DATA LINE CIRCUIT CHECK  , under SYSTEM TESTS. Check for poor connections. Clear faults and repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTICS  . If same diagnostic results are repeated, replace appropriate LCUs.
(7) Check for short or open in data line. See DATA LINE CIRCUIT CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS. Check for poor connections. Disconnect each LCU one by one to check if other LCUs operate properly. If other LCUs operate properly with one disconnected, replace suspected LCU. If problem still exists, clear faults and repeat SELF-DIAGNOSTICS  . If same diagnostic results are repeated, replace BCM.
