G20, I30 & Q45

  1. Ensure no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor. Start engine. Increase engine speed to 2000-3000 RPM 2 times, and allow to idle for one minute. Connect timing light to No. 1 cylinder spark plug wire or loop wire. See Fig 1-Fig 3 . Check ignition timing. See BASE IGNITION TIMING  table.
  2. Ignition timing is not adjustable on I30. If ignition timing is incorrect on Q45, adjust timing by turning camshaft position sensor. If ignition timing is incorrect on G20, adjust timing by turning distributor. On all models, turn ignition off. Connect TP sensor. Start engine, and verify idle speed is correct and engine operates smoothly. Turn ignition off. Clear any DTCs that are set. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.
