Knock Sensor (KS)

Basic ignition timing is programmed into PCM. Knock sensor detects engine detonation (knocking), converts knocking vibration into a voltage signal to the PCM. This information is used by PCM to adjust ignition timing accordingly to eliminate detonation. This knock sensor retard system is not used under normal operating conditions.
