DTC Confirmation
Depending on equipment available, use one of the following to set DTC:
- Using GST, start engine and bring it to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off. Wait 5 seconds. Disconnect MAF sensor harness connector. Start engine and run it for at least 5 seconds at idle. Turn engine off. Connect MAF sensor harness connector. Select MODE 7 and ensure 1st trip DTC P0100 is detected. Select MODE 4 and erase DTC P0100. Start engine and run for at least 10 minutes at idle. Select MODE 7. The 1st trip DTC P0171 or P0174 should be detected if a malfunction exists. If restarting engine was difficult, a problem with fuel injection system exists. Crank engine while depressing accelerator pedal. If engine starts, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE. If engine does not start, visually check exhaust and intake air leaks.
- Using MIL, start engine and run it at idle for 6 seconds. Turn ignition off. Wait 5 seconds. Disconnect MAF sensor harness connector. Start engine and run it for at least 5 seconds at idle. Turn engine off. Connect MAF sensor harness connector. Retrieve DTCs using MIL. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS SYSTEM in TESTS W/CODES INTRODUCTION article. MIL DTC 0102 should be detected. Erase MIL DTC 0102 by switching to MODE I on PCM. Select MODE II on PCM. Ensure MIL DTC 0505 is present. Start engine and run for at least 10 minutes at idle. MIL DTC 0115 or 0210 should be detected, if a malfunction exists. If restarting engine was difficult, a problem with fuel injection system exists. Crank engine while depressing accelerator pedal. If engine starts, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE. If engine does not start, inspect for exhaust or intake air leaks.
