DTC P1443: Canister Control Vacuum Check Switch

  1. Check Vacuum Supply  - Turn ignition off. Inspect vacuum hose between throttle body and EVAP canister purge control valve. Ensure connections are clean and tight. Repair or replace as necessary. If no faults are found, go to next step.
  2. Check Input Signal  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure. Disconnect canister control vacuum check switch harness connect or. See Fig 1. Verify harness continuity between canister control vacuum check switch harness connector No. 1 (Black/Yellow wire) and ECM connector terminal 35. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  3. Check Ground Circuit  - Turn ignition off. Verify harness continuity between canister control vacuum check switch harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and engine ground. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
  4. Check Component  - Disconnect canister control vacuum check switch harness connector. Connect vacuum pump to switch vacuum port. Connect positive lead of voltmeter to switch terminal No. 1. See Fig 2. Start engine and check voltage as follows:
    • Zero volts with less than 3.15 in Hg applied to switch.
    • Zero or 8.5 volts with 3.15-4.33 in Hg applied to switch.
    • Approximately 8.5 volts with more than 4.33 in Hg applied to switch.

If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair or replace switch.

  5. Disconnect ECM wiring harness connector. Check connector pins for damage or corrosion. Check all circuit connector for clean, tight fit. If no faults are found and fault is still present, check ECT sensor, EVAP canister purge control solenoid valve and TP sensor. See appropriate DTC test.
