Description & Operation

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) prevents wheel lock-up during abrupt braking. The system detects wheel rotation rate and electronically controls hydraulic fluid pressure applied to the brakes.

A slight vibration and noise may be noticed during hard braking. These conditions are normal and indicate anti-lock brake system is functioning properly. If a malfunction occurs in the system, anti-lock feature will not function but conventional brakes will continue to operate normally.

Components include ABS control unit, actuator assembly, 2 front wheel sensors and one rear wheel sensor. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see BRAKE SYSTEM article.
CAUTION: See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
