System Operation Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and remove key. Check if SECURITY light on dash is blinking during the following: door is opened, hood is opened, trunk lid is opened or door lock cylinder is removed. If light blinks in each case, go to step 4).
  2. If light does not blink under any condition, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 2  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  3. On all models, if light does not blink when door is opened, go to appropriate DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 1-1  . If light does not blink when hood is opened, go to appropriate DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 1-2  . If light does not blink when trunk lid is opened, go to appropriate DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 1-3  . If light does not blink when door lock cylinder is removed, go to appropriate DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 1-4  .
  4. Lock door without using key. Close doors, hood and trunk lid. If SECURITY light comes on, go to next step. If SECURITY light does not come on, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 3  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  5. Check if SECURITY light goes off during the following: door is closed, hood is closed, trunk lid is closed or door lock cylinder is installed. If SECURITY light goes off in each case, go to step 7).
  6. If light does not go off when door is closed, go to appropriate DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 1-1  . If light does not go off when hood is closed, go to appropriate DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 1-2  . If light does not go off when trunk lid is closed, go to appropriate DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 1-3. If light does not go off when key cylinder is installed, go to appropriate DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 1-4  .
  7. Lock door using key. If SECURITY light comes on, go to next step. If SECURITY light does not come on, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 4  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  8. System is now armed. If SECURITY light does not go out after 30-40 seconds, replace theft warning control unit. If light goes out after 30-40 seconds, unlock door without using key. Open door, hood or trunk lid. If alarm is triggered, go to step 10).
  9. If alarm is not triggered, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 5  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  10. Without turning ignition switch to ACC position, attempt to start engine. If starter motor does not operate, go to next step. If starter motor operates, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 6  under DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.
  11. If alarm does not stop after approximately 3 minutes, replace control unit. If alarm stops after approximately 3 minutes, retrigger alarm. Unlock door using key. If alarm stops and engine can be started, system is okay. If alarm does not stop or engine cannot be started, go to appropriate DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 7  and DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 8.
