Symptom Diagnosis

Symptom checks cannot be used properly unless problem occurs while vehicle is being tested. To reduce diagnostic time, ensure steps in BASIC TESTING and TESTS W/CODES articles in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section were performed before diagnosing a symptom. Symptoms available for diagnosis include:

• Difficult To Start Or No Start
• Hesitates
• High Idle After Warm-Up
• Fluctuating Idle Speed (Hunting)
• Unstable Idle
• Engines Stalls
• Lack Of Power
• Engine Knock (Ping)
• Surging
• Backfire Through Intake
• Backfire Through Exhaust
