The VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) is a safety function which prevents a vehicle from crashing with the integrated control by the SCC (Smart Cruise Control) centered on the VDC. The SCC computes the likelihood of a collision with a radar that senses the speed and gap of a vehicle ahead. In case of crashing it reduces damage from it through the IBAU controlling the SCC system.

When a driver's vehicle is about to crash, the SCC measures the distance from the car ahead and makes a decision accordingly.

If collision is expected, the IBAU brakes the vehicle even thought the driver doesn't hit a brake pedal by actuating motor to reduce damage of crash.

The IBAU exchanges signals with the ECM, TCM, SCC via CAN lines in order to control SCC properly.
