Component Inspection: Notes

  1. Visual Check
    1. Visually/physically inspect the spark plug cable and ignition coil related to the misfiring cylinder(s) for the following conditions
      • Damage, cracks, carbon and flashover
      • Poor connection or damaged harness
      • Connected to the incorrect cylinders at the ignition coil and spark plug
    2. Has a problem been found?

      YES 

      • Replace the ignition coil with an usable one and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace the ignition coil and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR ".

      NO 

      • Go to next step as below.
  2. Check ignition coil performance
    1. Turn the ignition switch "OFF".
    2. Connect probe to control terminal of ignition coil connector and select oscilloscope function with GDS.
    3. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
    4. Measure signal waveform of ignition coil with GDS.

      Specification:  Refer to SIGNAL WAVEFORM & DATA 

    5. Is the measured signal waveform within specification?

      YES 

      • Replace the ignition coil with an usable one and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace the ignition coil and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR ".

      NO 

      • Replace the ECM with an usable one and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace the ECM and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR ".
