Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Loosen the bolt (A) and then disconnect the universal joint assembly from the pinion of the steering gear box.

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 ~ 37.3 N.m (3.3 ~ 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 ~ 27.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Lock the steering wheel in the straight ahead position to prevent the damage of the clock spring inner cable when you handle the steering wheel.
    • Do not reuse the bolt.
  2. Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from front hub.

    Tightening torque: 

    88.2 ~ 107.8 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.0 ~ 79.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE: Be careful not to damage to the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire (A).
  3. Loosen the bolt & nut after removing the pin (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 ~ 117.7 N.m (10.0 ~ 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 ~ 86.6 lb-ft)

    NOTE: Do not use a bar to release the lower arm from the knuckle.
  4. Remove the lower arm from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-4R100).
    1. Install the support bolt (A) from bolt hole.
    2. Install the support body (B) from front axle.
    3. Tighten the bolt (C).

  5. Remove the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle.
    1. Remove the split pin (A).
    2. Loosen the nut and then remove the ball joint (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    34.3 ~ 44.1 N.m (3.5 ~ 4.5 kgf.m, 25.3 ~ 32.5 lb-ft)

  6. Disconnect the stabilizer link (B) with the front strut assembly (A) after loosening the nut.

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 ~ 117.7 N.m (10.0 ~ 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 ~ 86.8 lb-ft)

  7. Remove the engine room under cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    7.8 ~ 11.7 N.m (0.8 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 5.7 ~ 8.6 lb-ft)

  8. Remove the engine room cover.

    Tightening torque: 

    7.8 ~ 11.7 N.m (0.8 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 5.7 ~ 8.6 lb-ft)

  9. Remove the roll rod stopper bolt (A).

    Tightening torque 

    Bolt (C): 

    49.0 ~ 63.7 N.m (5.0 ~ 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 47.0 lb-ft)

    Bolt (B): 

    107.9 ~ 127.5 N.m (11.0 ~ 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 ~ 94.0 lb-ft)

  10. Disconnect the muffler rubber hanger (A).

  11. Loosen the bolts & nuts and then remove the sub frame.

    Tightening torque 

    Bolts: 

    (A)  44.1 ~ 58.8 N.m (4.5 ~ 6.0 kgf.m, 32.5 ~ 43.4 lb-ft)

    (B)  176.5~196.1 N.m (18.0~20.0 kgf.m, 130.2~144.7 lb-ft)

    Nuts: 

    (C)  44.1 ~ 58.8 N.m (4.5 ~ 6.0 kgf.m, 32.5 ~ 43.4 lb-ft)

    (D)  176.5~196.1 N.m (18.0~20.0 kgf.m, 130.2~144.7 lb-ft)

    NOTE: Set up the transmission jack under the lower arm in order to remove the shock absorber in no-load condition.

  12. Loosen the bolt and then remove the protector (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    7.8 ~ 11.7 N.m (0.8 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 5.7 ~ 8.6 lb-ft)

  13. Loosen the mounting bolt and then remove the stabilizer bar from the sub frame.

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 ~ 63.7 N.m (5.0 ~ 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 47.0 lb-ft)

  14. Remove the steering gearbox from the cross member by loosening the mounting bolt.

    Tightening torque: 

    88.2 ~ 107.8 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.0 ~ 79.5 lb-ft)

  15. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  16. Check the wheel Alignment.
