DESCRIPTION

This bulletin provides information and example on how to use the GDS Audio Update Module (AUM) tool. The AUM tool was developed to eliminate the need of storing multiple USB flash drives at the dealership. This module only replaces the usage of USB flash drive for updates.

Applicable Vehicles: All Vehicles Equipped with USB port

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE:
  • Make sure the battery icon at the bottom right of the GDS laptop shows at least 50%. If not, charge the GDS or attach a battery charger.
  • Make sure the GDS is updated to the latest version using internet smart update.
  • Make sure the vehicle's battery has reasonable charge. If the vehicle has been in storage for a long period of time, run the engine to ensure an adequate battery charge state for reliable results.
  • Turn off all lights (do not leave the headlight switch in auto mode) and all accessories (including heater/air conditioner/fan for both front and rear(if equipped), audio, heated seats, rear defroster, etc) to ensure the battery will not be discharged during the variant coding.
  • Do not disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or the GDS during the software download or upload.
  • Do not start the engine or turn the ignition switch OFF during the radio update.
  1. Start the GDS and select AUDIO UPDATE  from the Vehicle S/W Management column.

  2. Insert the BLACK  USB connection from the AUM into the GDS and Select OK.
    NOTE:
    • Do not connect the GRAY AUM  cable to the vehicle's USB port during the GDS to AUM download.
    • The Power Red LED will illuminate when the AUM is powered up. During GDS to AUM software download the Status Green LED will blink until the download is completed.

  3. Select the vehicle informaiton from each drop down menu, then select NEXT  .
    NOTE:
    • All fields are required before 'Next' is enabled to proceed.
    • The correlated TSB will be displayed after entering the correct vehicle information.

  4. Confirm the audio head unit in the vehicle matches with the image shown on the GDS screen. If it matches, then select OK  .

  5. Select DOWNLOAD UPDATE TO AUM  if TSB, Model, Year and Audio system matches the vehicle to be updated.

  6. The GDS to AUM download progress screen varies depending on the size of the software being downloaded.

  7. Click OK  after the software has been downloaded to the AUM.
    NOTE:
    • DO NOT disconnect the AUM from the GDS or the entire download will need to be performed again.

  8. With the AUM still connected to the GDS, connect the grey USB cable from the AUM to the vehicle's USB port.

    Turn ignition key to the ON  position, (or press the Start-Stop button 2 times without depressing the brake pedal).

    Perform software update to the radio using the TSB instructions or instructions shown on the GDS screen.

    NOTE: DO NOT select NEXT until radio software update has been completed.
    NOTE: Use the scroll bar to view the radio software update instructions or use the printed TSB document.
  9. Once the update has been uploaded to the radio unit, select NEXT  .

  10. Perform the AUM configuration procedure. This procedure will erase the previously downloaded file to prepare for next use.
