Charging System

CHARGING SYSTEM SPECIFICATION

Symptom Suspect Area Remedy
Charging warning indicator doe snot light with ignition switch "ON" and engine off Fuse blown Check fuses
Light burned out Replace light
Wiring connection loose Tighten loose connections
Electronic voltage regulator Replace voltage regulator
Charging warning indicator does not go out with engine running (Battery requires frequent recharging) Drive belt loose or worn Adjust tension or replace cables
Battery cables loose, corroded or worn Repair or replace cables
Fuse blown Check fuses
Fusible link blown Replace fusible link
Electronic voltage regulator or alternator faulty Repair wiring
Wiring Repair wiring
  Drive belt loose or worn Adjust tension or replace drive belt
Discharged battery Wiring connection loose or open circuit Tighten loose connection or repair wiring
  Fusible link blown Replace fusible link
  Warning indicator and pre-excitation Replace components
  Poor grounding Repair
  Electronic voltage regulator or alternator faulty Test alternator
  Battery life Replace battery
Overcharging Electronic voltage regulator faulty Replace voltage regulator
