TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): 15-01-019-1, Date of Issue:  June, 2015
HYUNDAI: Elantra (HD), Elantra Touring (FD)
GROUP: CAMPAIGN
Superceded Bulletin(s): 15-01-019, Date of Issue:  June, 2015

REVISION HISTORY

This TSB supersedes TSB# 15-01-019 to update part numbers and ROM ID information.

IMPORTANT: *** Retail Vehicles Only ***
Dealers must perform this Service Campaign whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair.
When a vehicle arrives at the Service Department, access Hyundai Motor America's "Warranty Vehicle Information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open Campaigns.

DESCRIPTION

The affected vehicles are equipped with electronic power steering (EPS). If the EPS electronic control unit senses a discrepancy in the system's circuitry, the EPS warning indicator lamp is illuminated in the instrument cluster and steering assist is no longer provided. Steering control can be maintained; however, the vehicle will revert to a manual steering mode requiring greater driver effort, particularly at low speeds.

This bulletin describes the service procedures to 1) update the software in the EPS control module, or 2) if necessary, replace the electronic power steering (EPS) unit.

    G10006295
  18. Remove both multi-function switches (P) by pressing on the tabs (Q) to unlock from the column.
    G10006296
  19. Disconnect all connectors (R) and harness clips from the EPS and ignition key cylinder.
    G10006297
    G10006298
    G10006299
  20. Remove the EPS mounting nuts (S).

    G10006300
  21. Separate the U-joint from the EPS by loosening the pinch bolt (T).
NOTE: Note the orientation of the U-joint assembled to the old EPS. The U-joint should be assembled to the new EPS in the same orientation.

Install the U-joint to the new EPS.

    Tightening torque:

    29.4 ~ 34.3 Nm (3.0 ~ 3.5 kgf.m, 21.6 ~25.3 lb-ft)

    G10006301
  22. Use a hammer and cold chisel or angle grinder to notch the bolt heads (U) that secure the ignition key cylinder to the EPS. Then use a screwdriver to loosen and remove the bolts.
