Automatic Transaxle: Installation

  1. After fitting the transaxle assembly into the engine assembly by using a jack, install the five transaxle lower mounting bolts (A).

    TORQUE: 40-47 Nm (4.0-4.7 kgf.m, 28.9-34.0 lb-ft)

  2. Install the starter motor mounting bolt (A) and the transaxle mounting bolt (B).

    TORQUE:

    [A] : 33-50 Nm (3.3-5.0 kgf.m, 23.9-36.1 lb-ft)

    [B]: 80-100 Nm (8-10 kgf.m, 57.9-72.3 lb-ft)

  3. Install the six drive plate mounting bolts (A) by rotating the timing gear.

    TORQUE: 46-53 Nm (4.6-5.3 kgf.m, 33.3-38.3 lb-ft)

    CAUTION: Be sure to tighten the bolts with the specified torque.

  4. Install the dust cover (A).

  5. Install the transaxle mounting bolt near the driveshaft hole from engine side.

    TORQUE : 80-100 Nm (8-10 kgf.m, 57.9-72.3 lb-ft)

  6. Install the side mud cover (A).

  7. After installing the font mounting bracket (B) by removing the three bolts, install the vacuum tube mounting bolt (A).

  8. After installing the font roll mounting bracket assembly (A), connect the vacuum tube and the connector.

  9. Install the rear roll mounting bracket assembly (A) by installing the four bolts.

  10. Install the transaxle oil cooler hose (A).

  11. In case of 4WD, install the transfer case assembly, (refer to TRANSFER CASE'S INSTALLATION )
  12. Connect the left driveshaft (A) to the transaxle.

  13. Install the inner shaft (B) by installing the three mounting bolts and connect the right driveshaft (A) into the inner shaft.
    NOTE: In case of 2WD, install the inner shaft and the right driveshaft as an assembly.

  14. Install the front muffler (A).

  15. Support the subframe with a jack and the Special tool (09624-38000).
  16. Install the powersteering pressure tube (A) to the powersteering oil pump by installing the l-type bolt.

  17. Install the mounting bolts. (refer to FRONT STABILIZER BAR or REAR STABILIZER BAR )
  18. Remove the roll stopper mounting bolts (A, B).

    TORQUE : 90-110 Nm (9-11 kgf.m, 65.1-79.5 lb-ft)

  19. Remove the muffler hanger rubber (A).

  20. Remove the lower arm ball joint mounting nut, the stabilizer link mounting nut, and the tie rod end mounting nut from the front knuckles, (refer to FRONT SUSPENSION SYSTEM )
  21. Install the steering joint bolt (A).

  22. Connect the return hose (A) to the tube by tightening the clamp.

  23. Install the under shield cover (A).

  24. Lower the vehicle.
  25. Install the front wheels and tires, (refer to DRIVESHAFT )
  26. Connect the power steering pressure sensor (A).

  27. Install the transaxle support bracket bolts (A).

    TORQUE : 90-110 Nm (9-11 kgf.m, 65.1-79.5 lb-ft)

  28. Install the four transaxle upper mounting bolts (A) and the starter motor mounting bolt (B).

    TORQUE:

    [A]: 65-85 Nm (6.5-8.5 kgf.m, 47.0-61.5 lb-ft)

    [A']: 43-55 Nm (4.3-5.5 kgf.m, 31.1-39.8 lb-ft)

    [B]: 43-55 Nm (4.3-5.5 kgf.m, 31.1-39.8 lb-ft)

  29. Remove the special tool (09200-38001).

  30. Install the shift cable assembly (A).

    TORQUE : 8-12 Nm (0.8-1.2 kgf.m, 5.8-8.7 lb-ft)

    NOTE: Adjust the shift cable referring to ADJUSTING THE SHIFT CABLE .

  31. Install the ground cable (A) to transaxle.

  32. Connect the TCU connector (A) and install the CKP sensor (B).

  33. Install the battery tray (B) by Installing the four bolts (A).

  34. Installing the air cleaner assembly (C) by connecting the AFS (Air Flow Sensor) connector (A) and tightening the clamp (B).

  35. Install the air duct (A).

  36. Install the battery after installing the three nuts (A, B, C) in order.

  37. Install the engine cover. (refer to ENGINE AND TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY )
  38. Refill the automatic transaxle fluid, (refer to INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT )
  39. Refill the powersteering fluid, (refer to POWER STEERING GEAR BOX )
  40. When replacing the automatic transaxle assembly, after initializing the TCU, perform N position learning and initial learning, (refer to 'HOW TO PERFORM N POSITION LEARNING ' and 'HOW TO PERFORM INITIAL LEARNING ')
