DTC P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance: DTC Detecting Condition

DTC DETECTING CONDITION

Item Detecting Condition Possible Cause
Case1) DTC Strategy
  • Signal stuck.
  • Contact resistance in connections.
  • Faulty ECT sensor
Enable Conditions
  • 250 seconds after "START" in case of short circuit to B+ or open circuit when temperature of intake air is below -30°C (-22°F).
Threshold Value
  • Modeled coolant temperature increase > Threshold But Measured coolant temperature increase < Threshold (Threshold depends on Coolant start temperature)
Diagnostic Time
  • 0.5 sec.
Case2) DTC Strategy
  • Signal Unplausible High with Long Soaking Condition
Enable Conditions
  • No Relevant Failure
  • Engine run Elapse of Previous driving cycle > 500sec. or ECT at Engine Stop of previous driving cycle > 85°C(185°F)
  • IAT Signal Decrease Energy by Air Flow after Start < 50J
  • Cumulative Time for IAT Signal Decrease Check (Air Flow > 60kg/h) > 70sec.
  • Cumulative Time for IAT Signal Decrease Check (Vehicle Speed > 71km/h(44 mph)) > 100sec.
Threshold Value
  • Measured coolant temperature with intake air temp. at previous driving cycle-intake air temp. at stat >12°C(54°F) is higher than 54°C(129°F)
Diagnostic Time
  • Immediate if Enable Conditions Fulfilled
