Charging System

CHARGING SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING

Symptom Suspect Area Remedy
Charging warning indicator does not light with ignition switch "ON" and engine off Fuse blown Check fuses
Light burned out Replace light
Wiring connection loose Tighten loose connections
Electronic voltage regulator See VISUALLY CHECK GENERATOR WIRING AND LISTEN FOR ABNORMAL NOISES
Charging warning indicator does not go out with engine running (Battery requires frequent recharging) Drive belt loose or worn See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
Battery cables loose, corroded or worn See INSPECTION
Fuse blown Check fuses
Fusible link blown Replace fusible link
Electronic voltage regulator or generator See VISUALLY CHECK GENERATOR WIRING AND LISTEN FOR ABNORMAL NOISES
Wiring Repair wiring
Engine hesitates/poor acceleration Overcharge Drive belt loose or worn See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
Wiring connection loose or open circuit Tighten loose connection or repair wiring
Fusible link blown Replace fusible link
Poor grounding Repair
Electronic voltage regulator or generator See VISUALLY CHECK GENERATOR WIRING AND LISTEN FOR ABNORMAL NOISES
Worn battery Replace battery
Electronic voltage regulator See VISUALLY CHECK GENERATOR WIRING AND LISTEN FOR ABNORMAL NOISES
