Test Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect Hi-Scan Pro tool or equivalent to OBD-II Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on and monitor for DTCs. Verify DTC P1521 is set. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 40-pin harness connector C94-4. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and ECM connector C94-4 terminal No. 36 (Orange/Black wire). Also measure resistance between ground and ECM connector C94-4 terminal No. 37 (Tan/Black wire). Both resistances should be infinity. If resistances are as specified, go to next step. If any resistance is not as specified, repair open or short circuit (in Orange/Black or Tan/Black wire) between TCM and ECM. After repair, go to step  5 .
  3. With ECM harness connector disconnected, measure resistance between ECM connector C94-4 terminal No. 36 (Orange/Black wire) and No. 37 (Tan/Black wire). Resistance should be infinity. If resistance are as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short circuit between wires (Orange/Black and Tan/Black wires). After repair, go to step  5 .
  4. Leave ECM harness connector disconnected and disconnect TCM 22-pin harness connector C93-3. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between ECM connector C94-4 terminal No. 36 and TCM connector C94-3 terminal No. 3 (Orange/Black wire). Also measure resistance between ECM connector C94-4 terminal No. 37 and TCM connector C93-3 terminal No. 4 (Tan/Black wire). Both resistances should be one ohm or less. If resistances are as specified, go to step  5 . If any resistance is not as specified, proceed as follow:
    • Using Hi-Scan Pro tool or equivalent, check if any DTC related to TCM is set.
    • If DTC related TCM is set. See appropriate DIAGNOSIS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
    • If no DTC related TCM is set, repair open or short circuit (in Orange/Black or Tan/Black wire) between TCM and ECM. After repair, go to next step.
  5. Return vehicle to original condition. Clear codes using Hi-Scan Pro tool or equivalent. Verify repairs by driving vehicle and monitoring for pending codes. If DTC is set during test drive, follow appropriate DTC test procedure.
