Component Tests: Speedometer
CAUTION:
If using a dynamometer to check speedometer, DO NOT operate clutch suddenly (M/T) or increase or decrease speed rapidly during testing. Ensure tire pressure is set to specification (refer to door jam label).
NOTE:
Speedometer pointer fluctuations can be caused by faulty speedometer cable. Tire wear and/or improper tire inflation pressures will increase speedometer indication error.
Test speedometer function using a scan tool or calibrated dynamometer. Compare readings on instrument cluster speedometer with readings on scan tool or dynamometer. Ensure readings indicated by instrument cluster speedometer are within tolerance limits. See SPEEDOMETER TEST LIMITS table. Check speedometer for pointer fluctuation and abnormal noise. Check odometer for correct operation. Repair or replace as necessary.
