Air Bag Module: Removal
- Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Air bag module is located on steering wheel. Using a hexagonal wrench, remove side cover of steering wheel and air bag module mounting bolts from back side of steering wheel. Tilt air bag module downward. Using a screwdriver, gently pry clockspring connector lock tabs outward to disconnect clockspring connector. See Fig 1. Remove air bag module.
CAUTION:
Wait 30 seconds after disconnecting the battery cable before doing any further work.
