Oil Pump: Inspection
- Check oil holes, and clean if clogged. Check front case for cracks or other damage.
- Check crankshaft oil seal. Replace seal if lip is worn or seal is otherwise damaged.
- Check oil pressure switch with ohmmeter leads on body and on sender tip. Press switch extended wire into body. If continuity exists, switch is faulty and must be replaced.
- Assemble oil pump gears to front case. Rotate pump, and check for smooth operation. Ensure there is no ridge wear on contact surfaces.
- Check clearance between gear tips and case.
- Place straightedge across front cover housing. Measure side clearance between each gear and straightedge.
- Replace components if not within specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS table.
