Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Place front wheels in straight ahead position. Remove air bag module. See AIR BAG MODULE . Remove upper and lower horn plate. Disconnect horn button connector and multifunction switch connectors. Remove steering wheel lock nut. Make alignment marks on steering wheel and steering wheel shaft.
    CAUTION: DO NOT hammer on steering wheel shaft during removal. Damage may result to steering column.
  3. Using a puller, remove steering wheel. Remove upper and lower steering column covers.
  4. Disconnect clockspring (multifunction switch connector) and horn connector located near bottom of steering column. Remove clockspring mounting screws. Remove clockspring.
