E: Faulty Abs Operation

NOTE: Symptoms vary depending on road conditions and driving conditions. Therefore, diagnosis for this symptom may be difficult.
  1. Inspect wheel speed sensors for proper installation. Repair as necessary and retest system. If installation is okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect Hydraulic and Electronic Control Unit (HECU) harness connector. Raise and support vehicle. While rotating each wheel by hand, measure AC voltage between appropriate HECU harness connector terminals. See appropriate WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION table. If A/C voltage exists, go to step  4 . If A/C voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect suspect wheel speed sensor harness connector. Rear wheel speed sensor harness connectors are located outboard of rear seat cushion, behind rear pillar trim. Measure resistance between wheel speed sensor terminals. If resistance is 1000-1200 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 1000-1200 ohms, replace wheel speed sensor and retest system.
  4. Inspect brake rotors and wheel bearings. Repair as necessary and retest system. If brake rotors and wheel bearings are okay, go to next step.
  5. Inspect all ABS system harness connectors for poor connections. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and retest system. If all connectors are okay, go to next step.
  6. While wiggling wheel speed sensor harness and connectors, measure resistance of wheel speed sensor circuits at HECU harness connector. See appropriate WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION table. If resistance is within specification, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, repair wiring or connectors and retest system.
  7. Inspect HECU harness connector for poor connections. Repair as necessary and retest system. If connector is okay, replace HECU and retest system.
