Component Testing: Tachometer

Connect an external tachometer to engine. Start engine. Compare external tachometer readings with instrument cluster tachometer readings. Replace tachometer if gauge readings are not within acceptable range. See TACHOMETER TEST  .

CAUTION: When replacing tachometer, DO NOT  reverse wiring connections, as it will damage tachometer's transistors and diodes.

(1) Tests performed at ambient temperature of 77°F (25°C), with 13.5 volts at tachometer input power supply terminal.
(2) Speed indicated on external tachometer.
