Throttle Position (TP) Sensor

NOTE: For further TP sensor diagnosis, see SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS or appropriate TESTS W/CODES article.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP sensor harness connector. Using a DVOM, check resistance between TP sensor terminals No. 1 (ground) and No. 4 (power). See Fig 1 . Resistance should be 3500-6500 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace TP sensor. If resistance is as specified, go to next step.
  2. Connect DVOM between TP sensor terminals No. 1 (ground) and No. 3 (output). Open throttle slowly from idle to wide-open throttle position. Resistance should change smoothly in proportion to the throttle valve opening. If resistance does not change smoothly, replace TP sensor.
