Idle Speed: Notes

  1. Ensure coolant temperature is 176-203°F (80-95°C). Turn all accessories off. DO NOT  check curb idle speed while cooling fan is operating. On vehicles equipped with power steering, ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position.
  2. Loosen accelerator cable. Install tachometer. Connect scan tool to DLC, located in fuse block. If scan tool is not used, ground DLC. Ground ignition timing adjustment connector located behind air cleaner housing. Operate engine for at least 5 seconds at 2000-3000 RPM.
  3. Run engine at idle speed for 2 minutes. Check idle RPM. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  table. If RPM is not as specified, adjust idle speed using idle adjusting screw on throttle body. See Fig 1 . If idle speed is still higher than specified with adjusting screw fully closed, check idle switch. Recheck idle speed.
